Background: OverviewToday's electronics grapple with an uncertain and contradictory world. Data can be noisy, inconsistent, or incomplete. These same problems occur in a diverse range of applications, from docking unmanned spacecraft in orbit to reading a Flash memory drive in your pocket. Machines analyze these complex situations by performing probabilistic inference, using a combination of advanced algorithms and hardware acceleration. However, the binary logic of conventional digital computers is ill-suited to this type of computation. Here at Lyric Semiconductor, we are redesigning processing from the ground up. We have modified every step of the process to handle probabilities more efficiently.
Not traditional digital, not traditional analog, Lyric's probability processing is a whole new approach to processing. In probability processing, highly parallel architectures operate on probability values in between 0 and 1 to solve some of today's most interesting problems. This approach enables order-of-magnitude performance wins for everything from error correction, to fraud detection, to product recommendations, to spam filtering. |
